The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

Habit 1: Be Proactive
"Habit 1 is the key to unlocking all the other habits and that's why it comes first. It says, "I am the captain of my life. I can choose my attitude. I'm responsible for my own happiness or unhappiness. I am in the driver's seat of my destiny, not just a passenger."

Image result for be proactive

Reflection:What I think this means is that you should be responsible for your own actions. Being proactive is a great habit to have, because you never waste any time. Being proactive allows you to have more free time. For example, let's say I have a lot of homework, but I have one week to do it. If I do the homework on the first day I get it then, I'll have the rest of the week to myself. I always try to be proactive because I love taking naps and playing basketball, so I need to do my homework quick, so I could have a 2hr nap then play basketball until I have to got to sleep. When I am not being proactive I usually take a long and cold shower to wake me up. Being proactive also allows me to carve out my own journey. It allows me to do whatever I want to do not what others want me to do. What the quote above states is that when you are proactive you are the main man and the person with the say.

Habit 2: Begin with the end in Mind                                                  "Control your own destiny or someone else will." Jack Welch

Image result for begin with the end in mindReflection: What I believe this means is that you should always take charge of your destiny. You should know where you want to stand and do something to make sure you end up there. You should never let anyone tell you your goals or what you should be doing. This will help you control your life more. For example when people ask you what College you want to go to . What do you say the one you want to go to because it has the major you want or the one your friend is going to. .... OF course you have to say the one that has the major you want to go into, if not then what is the point. You should always do things because you want to not because your friend or your mom or anyone else wants to go there. It should be you. Begin with the End in Mind means to begin each day, task, or project with a clear vision of your desired direction and destination, and then continue by flexing your proactive muscles to make things happen.

Habit 3: Put First Things First                                                          "Organize and execute around priorities."

  • Image result for Put First Things First"Generations of time management

  • Notes and checklists

  • The calendar

  • Time management

  • Self management

  • Learn to say “No”

  • Adapt to sudden changes

  • Successfully delegate 15

You must make sure to follow these steps In order to learn how to put things first. When you do things that are important first you end up realizing how much time you actually have to relax and do the other non important stuff you end up doing. You should really learn  how to manage time in order to have a good schedule. Make sure you always carry a calendar with things you need and want to do. Learn to say NO to the things you do not have to do. For example lets say you have a big chemistry test on Monday but your friend is having her birthday bash on Saturday. What do you do ? If you were smart you said that you will stay home and study. Forget a party you'll have many of those later on, right now you should worry about passing the chemistry test that is 60% of your grade.

Habit  #4: Think Win-Win
"Think Win-Win or not Deal"
Image result for think win win

You always want a mindset of winning. You never want to lose because then you're not succeeding in life. Having that mindset of winning will allow you have an advantage because now you'll have the confidence to win. Many that do have this mindset are usually the successful people. People that have this win win mindset usually win. For example, Leo Messi  would always play even if he was injured. He would do this just because he wanted to win and had that win or win mindset. Integrity: sticking with your true feelings, values, and commitments. Maturity:expressing your ideas and feelings with courage and consideration for the ideas and feelings of others. Abundance Mentality:believing there is plenty for everyone.

Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, then to be Understood                                       "Diagnose before you subscribe"

Image result for Seek First to Understand, then to be Understood "Diagnose before you subscribe" What this means to me is that you should always have steps toward creating a plan. When you plan on doing something you have to have steps. Make sure you know exactly what you are planning and know how to plan it. When creating a plan you must make sure you know your routine and make sure you put exact times and dates. What I think this means is, you should be good listener and learn what things are about before you start teaching other people. This is a great message because it shows how you should learn to be taught before teaching. I could remember a time when my coach told the whole team and said " I know you can play, anyone can play. It's a matter if you can understand the process. Overall what this process means is to listen first and then you can go out and teach someone else.

Habit 6: Synergize                                                                 "The Whole is greater than the sum of its parts (1+1=3)"

What this means to me is that it is good to help others when they need it.Synergize is the habit of creative cooperation. It also means to be open minded and work as a team to work on solution to problems. This word is quite new to me never heard of it, but know that I have done some research its very important to be synergize. An example of synergize is any type of team. Every team has to be open minded towards new ideas and they also have to work as a team. This is a great example because are only as good as their worst player. By getting the others involved will help them grow to better players. I did not know what this word meant before, but now that I know it I want to use it my everyday life. This mentality of being synergize will my trait of being a leader. I would like that leader trait to be the strongest. Me being the leader will allow me to control my own destiny. I want the keys to the car and ride waves of reality.

Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw                                                              Four Dimensions of Self-Renewal: Physical, Mental, Spiritual, Social/Emotional

What I think this metaphor means is to practice. If you practice everyday then you'll be more experience that's what is means by sharpening the saw. It can be by any four social/emotional, spiritual, mental, or physical. Here is a physical example, if I practice everyday in soccer than more likely than not I will be better. By practicing it will increase my production on the field. I like this example on sports, but you can use it in education. Like when you're studying for that final exam, so you study all night. By studying all night you are sharpening the saw for the exam you are about to take. This is a great example because it shows how you can sharpen the saw physical or mentally. Spiritual example can be you studying your religion so you can be at peace with GOD.

Reflection: How this has reflected on me and how it had impacted me is by showing me that there are several ways to do things and not just in one way. You should always be aware of the things that are being done and the way they are being done. Sometimes there could be shortcuts to doing these things so you don't take forever doing them. You could always be more productive while doing these things. The 7 habits have been change the way I think in different perspectives. I have been using all the 7 habits. If it's, be proactive, begin with an end in mind, put first things first, think win-win, seek to understand then to be understood, synergize, or sharpening the saw. I was in the midst of doing my college application and when I started to do it all I remember was how can apply the 7 habits to my college application. I was being proactive when I was seeking out for information about colleges. This took a lot of time and effort, but I was on task and proactive so I finished with time to spare. I began with end mind because I knew I was doing my college plan, I wanted to apply to college. As of right now I am very anxious because I want to be accepted and that's thinking with a win win mentally.

But at the end of the day I felt good because I know it did something good. Later that day I went home and went to the Long Beach Outlets with my baby brother. On Saturday I came to school to start on my CSU application and ask for help on it. After that I went home ate and then left to work. I did not leave till 9 pm when we close. Six Rules to Make People Like You

1.How To Win Friends and Influence People

I normally like to keep things to myself, but when it comes to a conversation, I'm very interested in what others are talking about. Many people just fake it and act like they're actually interested in the conversation. I'm always genuine when talking to someone because they might have advice that will help you in the future. For example when I had public speakers in my class they have great advice about what the real world is like. You can always learn stuff from anyone, everyone has past experiences that will help you in the long run. From my own experience I need to improve on being more interested in what other people say. I need to be more involved in the conversation and be listening to what they are saying so I can say my input in the conversation. I always want to be in the conversation so I don't feel as I'm left out. Honestly, I really do a better job in being in the conversation. From now on I will strive to be genuine and interested in other people.  2

2.Smile

Image result for smile Actions speak louder than words, and a smile says, "I like you. You make me happy. I am glad to see you." This quote is trying to say to be kind to you're enemy's and too forgive them but to remember their names because its very important to remember. Also if that if you remember someone name because it will make them remember you're name. They will want to be come friends with you because you know them and your kind to them. They will and would want to be your friend because having friends is the best thing you can ever have and they are very fun and funny people to have around you.Make sure you always smile despite the situation. When you are low you should show that you are strong by giving a smile and when you are happy you should smile too. The point is that where ever you are or the situation you should always try to give that positive look.

3.Remember Names

Image result for remember names "A man's name is to him the sweetest and most important sound in any language."This rule is stating that you can make people like you because you are listening to what they have to say which means you are showing interest in them. ON the other hand, if you only talk about yourself and don't let them speak they will think you're selfish.Something very important to get people to like you is remembering who they are and what name they go by. A person is interested more in their name than all the other names combined. It makes a person feel very special when you remember their name because it shows a piece of your mind remembers them. A person's name is the most unique and identitive word a person has a connection to. When we remember peoples name, it shows a sign of courtesy and a way of recognizing them. When a person remembers our name after meeting us, we feel respected and more important. It makes a positive and lasting impact on us. When we don't remember a name and people have to repeat is several timesit makes us feel a little unappreciated.

4.Be a good listener encourage others to talk.

Image result for be a good listener"Remember that the man you are talking to is a hundred times more interesting in himself and his wants and his problems then he is in you and your problems." What I believe this means is that you should always listen to what another person has to say. The other person may be saying something that might be very useful now or maybe in the future. You should always ask questions. Make sure the person gets out all the information he/she wants to tell you so he them feels more comfortable speaking. When speaking to someone you should always look them in the eye, don not look at your phone, make sure you try to relate and add to their stories, and listen most of all. A person will really value you if he sees these on you. Make sure you focus on the other person and not what is around you.  And most of all engage, I know there are moments you just don't want to talk to a person you should always try to pay attention and give them respect.

5. Talk in terms of the other mans interest

Image result for Talk in terms of the other mans interest stick figures"The royal road to a man's heart is to talk to him about the things he treasures most."  What I believe this mean is that you should always try to relate and  see what others like and have a conversation about that. It shows manners and makes you look intelligent because of the level of interest you have. I have another theory that it means to be open minded. Being open minded helps you see things in a different perspective. If you never talk about others interest then later they become the same as you and just talk about themselves. Having an ability like that will help in the long run. It will make people want to talk to you, because you are very rational. When you about others interest you can get ideas from others and make your own idea. This will make a very successful person with a lot of knowledge.

6. Make the other person feel important and do it sincerely.

"The desire to be important is the deepest urge in human nature." (John Dewey)" When you communicate with someone you should always make sure you are paying attention to them, You should always make sure you make the feel comfortable and safe around  you. Being sincere helps someone believe that you are a genuine person. By being sincere you are making the other person feel more comfortable. This will lead to a more interesting conversation. This is a great trait because if you make them feel comfortable, then they are more likely to open up. When you can make people open up it makes them know you actually care. For example, someone can just fake it and not be genuine when talking to you. They will most likely be using sarcasm because they don't know how to make you feel comfortable. Someone that will usually always be genuine and make you feel comfortable will be your mother.

A doctor who specializes in neurology is called a neurologist. The neurologist treats disorders that affect the brain, spinal cord, and nerves, such as:

"The Six Attitudes of High Achievers"

John R. Noe

1.Make no small plans: plan big

“Make no small plans. They have no magic to stir men's souls.”What I think this means is that you should always aim for what is big and not small. If you are trying to set new goals for yourself then do them but make sure you plan are something big not small. Yes you start out small but those are just the baby steps you need to take in order to reach the top. When life is very limited and short you want to make plans that you're going to be able to remember for the rest of your life. Also don't make big plans if they're bad make sure what you're doing is legal and fun just because it's bad but a big plan doesn't make it okay. Try to make plans with the people you love to be around because that will always make it more memorable. Don't affiliate yourself with negative people because then it may affect your mood and overall kill your plans. Just take any opportunity you can because a small activity can turn into the best night of your life.

2. Do what they fear

“Don't be afraid of your fears. They're not there to scare you. They're there to let you know that something is worth it.”  What I think this means is that you should not be afraid of no one because that person may fear what you may not. I try to never fear anything and try to be fearless. Yet, I still have one fear. The fear to fail I hate losing and failing anything that has to do with failing. Do what they fear can also mean taking matter into your own hands. Like let's hypothetically say someone is getting bullied and others are just watching, you can not be afraid of the consequences and stand up and help the guy getting bullied. I like this example because it shows how you are doing what the other people around could not do. By standing up and showing others to be more mindful might be able to trigger their brain next time to help others. Maybe, they might be not as scared to stand up.

3. Willing to prepare

Are You Willing to Prepare to Be Successful? No matter how successful we are, most of us want to be even more successful. This is a good thing. This is how we challenge ourselves. This is how we keep getting better. You must want to practice something not once or twice but hundreds of times to get perfection. Both those who prepare and those who skip the prep share many of the same excuses. But, those committed to realizing their full potential recognize that success is not an accident and then choose to prepare in spite of their excuses. They prepare to perform and be at their best whether they feel like it or not. Once the test begins, most students want an A, but were they motivated enough to postpone other more interesting activities and push through the possibly tedious subject matter before it was time to take the exam?High school football players want to win on Friday night. With the crowd cheering and the band playing, who wouldn’t want to win the big game? Everybody wants to win, but only a few are willing to prepare to win. If you become part of this magnificent minority, you can achieve results above and beyond your previous best.

4. Willing to risk failure

"Being a pathfinder is to be willing to risk failure and still go on."  In order to learn a lesson you must first make a mistake. You must be willing to do that mistake in order to learn. Learn to do better from those errors you make in life. Fix them or correct them in any way. Many people might think its just too hard and give up. When no one is doing nothing, I will step in and risk the feeling of failure to provide hope that someone is doing something. An example of this would be a very heartbreaking story about a soccer team that they were in the finals to win the cup. Although something tragic happen on the plane on their way to the game. The plane crashed and kill all the players and staff. So the other team being aware of the event they decided that it was morally right to give the trophy to the other team that just lost all their players. This is a great example because the trophies were going to be given to them , but they decided to not receive it and lose and give it the the families of the lives that were lost.

5. Are Teachable

A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion. (Prov. 18:2). To be teachable means that you have the mind-set of a lifelong learner. You’re consistently open to learning from anyone at any time on any topic. There’s no way to escape the fact that being teachable is foundation to spiritual growth and character development in all areas of our walk with the Lord. In order to be this you must be able to be taught in diffrent ways. If you try doing something for example washing a car one way and there is someone who can show you how to do it a quicker, faster way then you should go ahead and do it. If a leader isn’t teachable, he will be resistant to hearing instruction both from God and from others and will likely make little progress when it comes to personal growth and spiritual maturity. The unteachable leader will eventually fall into other sins and disqualify himself. If a person is truly teachable, he’s open to whatever God might wish to show him on virtually any issue and in regard to all sin.

Class Evaluation  1. One of the things about this class that I enjoyed was that I was an upper class men, the students who I sat with were...
